The Bloom Effect,  The City Firm and BANDxCITY Announce World  Class Lineup for Official CMJ Music  Marathon International Showcase

 

New York – BANDxCITY, the curated online resource for discovery of noteworthy emerging music filtered by city, The Bloom Effect, social media  and public relations firm helmed by industry and festival veteran Fiona Bloom, and The City Firm, crossover creative consulting firm founded by Laura O Reilly, together present the Official CMJ International Showcase, IMPORT/ EXPORT: SOUND ART CLASH, on the 19th of October 2012 from 7-11 p.m. at DROM.  Attendance is free with CMJ badge or RSVP to importexport@thecityfirm.com and is limited to

21 and over.

 

 

The event will feature performances from 10 of the world s prominent emerging artists, half

from hometown New York, and the other half traveling from various  locations around the globe: DR Congo, Tel Aviv, Singapore, Barbados, Malaysia, Thailand, the Netherlands, Indonesia,

and the Philippines. All have  attracted international press and critical acclaim, and the range of genres is as diverse as the performers  origins, an IMPORT/EXPORT experience that creates an enjoyable sonic CLASH.

 

 

The venue will also feature an all night interactive mythology installation by New Villager and a

sound installation by Miz Metro 4.0, providing the artistic component of the showcase.

 

 

Fiona Bloom of The Bloom Effect & Miz Metro, creative consultant and hybrid vocal artist, conceived of the integrated crossover showcase to accompany the CMJ Featured Panel Galleries Are Venues Too! The Future of Hybrid Audio Visual Culture which will be moderated by Miz Metro on the 16th of October as a component of the CMJ Music Marathon 2012.  The panel  will feature WuTang  Clan co-founder and owner of WuWear,  mogul Oliver “Power” Grant, interactive art/music group New Villager, Joe  Ahearn  of Showpaper and curator  at The Clock Tower, and platinum producer Keith Shocklee, known for his groundbreaking influence  on hip hop culture as the defining sound of Public Enemy. The panel  will be held at the NYU Kimmel Center at 12:30 p.m. and a CMJ badge is required for entry. 7:00 New Villager, an art and music group based in Brooklyn, will continue their narrative of self-made mythology as exhibited  and performed in gallery installations all over the country with an experimental sound-DJ set sure  to contribute to the group s critical acclaim. The art/ music group will be performing  in between sets throughout the night, creating an immersive streamlined experience from entrance to exit.

7:15 Alesh, delivering potent  rhymes aimed  at the heart  of corruption  within and without his native Democratic Republic  of Congo,  will pay homage to the origins of hip-hop s deconstruction of political reality with artistry in a set laden  with sub-bass drops,  militant rolls of piccolo snares, and galvanizing messages in French, Swahili, and Lingala.

her Import/Export performance, Miz Metro will be accompanied by Keith Shocklee (of Public Enemy)  on an MPC and turntables, debuting the beginnings of their on going collaboration, entitled Miz Metro 4.0.
